Inspiration
I grew up in Idaho, wandering and riding my horse through the desert and foothills. As a child I was always sketching and doodling, eventually filling many sketchbooks with whimsical drawings. Today, my 50+ sketchbooks are windows to my consciousness.
My world is the West. I was born here, and I have lived in the foothills of the Teton Range for 40 years. Although I have explored trails and back roads throughout the West, Alaska, and several continents, my favorite paintings are often near home. I feel a closeness to the light, changing seasons, and migrations of animals in this special part of the world.
I often begin multiple works at once and look for strong design in each. I see infinite possibilities in the patterns of light on landscape, sky, and water. I work directly "en plein air" to directly study landscape elements and experiment in the studio with mixed media to express mood or atmosphere. I hope my pieces inspire and inform my viewers and create an active dialogue with people and the natural world."
